Course information

Dance course

In flamenco dance classes you will learn a pre-set pattern of movements or different choreographies which you will eventually integrate within the styles (palos) such as seguirillas, soleá, soleá por bulerías, alegrías... in coordination with the guitar, the singing and following a compás (flamenco rhythm).

There are many different types of compás which change according to the palo.

Course of Technique

Our technique classes are based on the different postures of the upper body along with braceo (arms) which includes the circular movement of the hands, turns (there are multiple styles), footwork (zapateado) and working to understand how to engage the weight of the body and be completely grounded.

Bear in mind that the flamenco artistic expression is primarily creative and very personal, however it is paramount to learn and reinforce its fundamental technical concepts

Our courses start every Monday all year round. It doesn't matter which week you decide to join the classes, since every week we work with different rhythms and styles. Teachers will assess the class group level prior to choose the palo to work on during the week.

On Monday we start with a pre-warm-up stretch that helps our teachers assess the level of the class, which is key to deciding which palo (style) to work on during the week.

The most important thing is to know and understand the flamenco through the body, paying attention to all its parts, gaining confidence in your body and leaving shyness behind.

You will learn how to interpret the singing, the guitar and the rhythm to fully understand the dialogue between those elements. It is only when you gather that interaction, that you will be ready for the dance improvisation and spontaneity, which are key to flamenco expression.

Due to the importance of the basics learning, Taller Flamenco organises Flamenco technique lessons for those who have some knowledge of flamenco. These Technique courses can be combined with Dance lessons.

If you are a complete beginner, Taller Flamenco offers special introductory courses for beginners.
